Additional Notes
The information provided here is for educational and academic use. Any person that attempts to use this information for MAIL-SHOTS and/or selling of products will be breaking the trust that we have placed in people by setting up our electronic mail system.
The fact that staff and students are listed as e-mail users, does not necessarily mean that they read their mail or even use a computer.
All users in the school are only to use their own username for sending as well as receiving mail and no-one else's. This is a simple rule, which if not followed will mean that all Mail and News facilities will be withdrawn from school use, until such matters have been resolved. If you wish this service to continue and know of people misusing the mail and news system, please let us know so that they can be stopped from damaging the service for others.
Staff and students should also realise that there is a lot of potential for anyone in the world to mail them, with this in mind all replies to mail received and new mail sent should be in the appropriate 'clean' language. Everyone has their own view point and are entitled to air it, but blatant rudeness to others and the such will not be tolerated.
Please note that students MUST not send or receive large postings from any source. External users must realise that this is a school and the posting of material that may be deemed suitable in a university or workplace is not always deemed so in a school. Mailing a pupil with jokes or other such RUBBISH does not normally stop at the first recipient, but tends to get forwarded to at least 20 others despite whatever anyone says about trust. [Even sixth form can be childish].
The school administrators do not want to read staff or student mail, as confidentiality is an important thing for all concerned, but please note that logs are kept of e-mail activity. These logs are checked for messages of an excessive size as well as clear indications of time wasting and/or where students are e-mailing each other an excessive number of times.
Content - E-Mail is for ACADEMIC use only. Sending and receiving of 'Snow-ball' messages, huge lists of jokes, programs, pictures, viruses, compressed files and any kind of offensive material is definitely not allowed.
Membership Lists - Use and membership of mailing lists is not allowed.
External E-Mail From Current Students and other users - Please note that sending/receiving mail from e-mail accounts which are external, to other staff and/or students e-mail accounts held internally or externally to the school may be classified as a school issue, if these messages affect the school in any way. In such cases the school discipline code will be implemented, where this is not suitable then external bodies (i.e.) Police may be involved.
These notes are not totally exhaustive.
