Teacher of English (Full or part time)

Required for September 2019

MPS/UPS + London Fringe Allowance

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed and engaging English teacher to join our fantastic school. The successful candidate will work within an ambitious, vibrant and high performing Department to instil a love of English in all students. The English Department has a strong track record of examination success and both English Language and English Literature are offered at A-Level. The Departments highly capable and experienced teachers play a central role in the development of learning within the school. There is a strong extra-curricular emphasis with excellent debating and public speaking opportunities.  The Department also has a Book Club, which has close links with local schools.  

Educating 1200 students, The Bishop’s Stortford High School provides a single-sex education for boys in Years 7 to 11 and has a large, thriving co-educational sixth form, with over one hundred girls on roll. Last year 82% of our GCSE students achieved grade 4+ in both English and Maths, contributing to a Progress 8 score of +0.55, compared to a national average for boys of -0.29. At A-Level we had a 55% A* - B pass rate in 2018 and six students have received confirmed Oxbridge offers this year. We have a strong ethos, based on high expectations and standards for all, a committed and supportive staff who deliver high quality, engaging lessons and well-behaved students with excellent attitudes to learning.

We were graded Outstanding in every category by Ofsted in March 2017.

Teacher of Business Studies and Economics (Full or part time)

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Business Studies and Economics teacher to join our successful department. The appointed candidate would be expected to have excellent subject knowledge, contribute to the teaching of both Business Studies and Economics and get involved in the department’s extra-curricular offer. We have a very supportive and tight-knit team who are focused on delivering the very best learning opportunities for our students.

The subject has enjoyed a resurgence in both outcomes and popularity, with high uptake in both Business Studies and Economics at A-Level, as well as GCSE Business Studies.  We have also extended our offer in Year 12 with an industry-recognised course that introduces students to the fundamentals of financial markets.  We are now looking for an energetic colleague to enable us to cater for the needs of an increasing number of students and contribute to the further development of the department within our fantastic school.
